Magnus August Høiberg, better known as Cashmere Cat, gives Miguel‘s drugs, hugs and love song, “Do You…,” the remix treatment. Opening with his distinct, plucking arpeggios and snippets of Miguel’s distant, floating inquisitions, CC’s remix transforms the original song from a funky, soulful ballad into a futuristic hip-hop track. The Norwegian producer has drawn comparison to some of electronic music’s new era of hip-hop and bass artists — including Rustie, Hudson Mohawke, and TNGHT — and this remix showcases exactly why. Vibrant, almost impossibly lush walls of sound, skittering snares, warped vocals and bombastic low end combine into a unique sound that might not have been named yet (aquacrunk…really??), but is undeniable in its draw.
